Decades before Maple Ridge Hospital became something tangible, the spirit of the hospital took shape in the minds of a small group of foresighted individuals. They came together connected by a common bond and gave of themselves – first their time and energy, and then from their pockets, and a tradition of giving began.
These community members shared a dream of local acute care, and their determination in the end, proved stronger than the many obstacles that arose in their path.
On March 1, 1958, just over a year after the first sod was turned, the doors officially opened to a state of the art health facility, Maple Ridge Hospital.
Over the years, the facility grew, Maple Ridge Hospital changed its name to Ridge Meadows Hospital to better reflect both communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. In 1995 Ridge Meadows Hospital merged with the Fraser Burrard Hospital Society. Today, Ridge Meadows Hospital is part of Fraser Health, a region encompassing healthcare from Burnaby to Boston Bar.
Ridge Meadows Hospital stands as a modern health care centre with a total of 239 beds, including 148 in long-term care. As the hospital heads towards another growth phase, a staff of 1100 and 110 doctors continue to work together with 500 volunteers and the board of directors of Fraser Health to strive for a healthier tomorrow.
